Back & Fro 回顾.展望

Can't believe it's already the 4th day of 2008 - the China Olympics Year. So I did not manage to squeeze in a last entry before 2007 ends. Looking back, seems like I experienced quite a lot of 1st times in the past year, though not exactly a very eventful one. If I'm not wrong, I think this is also the first time I'm trying to think back on what happened in the past year and think forward what I want to do in the new year.

So 2007 was the year:

1. I got my first managerial job. Though it was only a temp job that spanned over 5 months, I thought at least the title sounded great while it lasted. Now I know sometimes the job scope does not necessarily measure up to its title. But I did get to know a different circle of friends and gain new perspectives and insights from the job.

2. I attended my first fashion show while on the job. No kidding, in the flesh, all female models need not be very 'busty' but they must be 'leggy', tower over most non-model guys and walk with a sway. The males, on the other hand, must have sculpted bods, lean or built. And Denise Keller looks better on TV, in my opinion.

3. I dedicated more time on exercise. As one gets older, you can't help but to watch your diet and try to work those muscles a bit more, lest all sorts of funny modern illnesses catch up with you. So I 'gymmed' for a couple of months at the company little gym (now only reduced simple workouts at home) and took up swimming lessons. I know it's kinda late for that but "better late than never", right? Since then friends started calling me 'beach boy' as they have never seen me more tanned now than ever before. Neither have I, haha. I take it to be a compliment :)

4. I caught more of favourite TV shows on my PC than on actual TV. Quite a number of hit shows are simply coming in too late on TV (both free-toair and cable). Downloading and watching these shows almost as simultaneously as they are shown in their native countries and in the original soundtracks are simply much better. Cases in point: TVB drama "Tang Xin Feng Bao", Taiwanese variety "One Million Star", Japanes anime "Bleach" and ABC's "Desperate Housewives". MOST valid case-in-point: "Heroes" - the one show I thought which looks on my 17" LCD screen than on my 29" flatscreen TV. It's darker.

5. I found myself falling into a 'down' mood too easily, in various situations. Be it due to lack of job satisfaction, the lack of one thereafter, fading companionship, sob TV, witnessing the falls of close ones, mourning the loss of another, or griefing the losses of people I don't even know. Hope there would brighter days ahead in 2008.

6. I witnessed more of my friends getting hitched than in any other single year before. I got involved more wholesomely in a best friend's wedding - from fetching the bride in the wee hours to MC-ing at the banquet (definitely a first for me!). I also attended my first wedding dinner of a Malay friend, in which we were actually served Chinese cuisine and more importantly, it was at the Hilton's grand ballroom! Weddings aside, a significant number of singles around me also bade their bachelorhood (and bachelorette-hood?) days goodbye - being attached or engaged. Did they actually plan this? When is my turn?!

7. I attended my first concert in 3 years - A*Mei in Concert. I guess I need not repeat too much here. See previous post to relish my excitement ba.

8. I first spent the first day of the Chinese New Year at a KTV. Refreshing change of itinerary since the past years' were spent watching TV and playing mahjong at a relative's place. Also celebrated my birthday at another. But that's it! Haven't been able to find people who want to K since. Whoa!!

9. I fell in love with more things virtual - Facebook, Friendster, blogs, forums etc. Sign of loneliness and isolation???

10. I started this blog. Hope this lazy bum can find the discipline to sustain it and find ways to make it better in the new year :P

Now, 2008, what holds? Hopefully...

more sunshine, less rain,
less losses, more gain,
more peace, less blood,
less worries, more guts...

...and of course my own big breaks, career- & relationship-wise :)

A belated very Happy New Year to whoever happens to read this!!!!!
