It was indeed well worth the wait! After 5 long years since her last concert here in 2002, I've finally got the chance to witness one of my most favourite singer take to the stage live -- A*Mei 张惠妹 :D

It was really awesome and one which I truly enjoyed thoroughly and did not regret going. Though it was not my first concert, it is after all only my 3rd after Sandy Lam & Faye Wong. Coz I was mostly not familiar with their Cantonese songs then, there were some "cold moments" (冷场) for me. But I could proudly sing along to 95% of her song list last night. The concert was practically a mass KTV session anyway, ha!

The 3hr20min show started with A*Mei singing a small verse of "空中的梦想家"[Dreaming On Air] from her 1st album, without musical accompaniment, followed by a medley of her fast numbers like "Bad Boy" & "发烧"[Fever]. The mood of the concert was set.
Then when she changed into a white gown (sorry, no pix here 'coz the gown was too reflective for my old camera) and belted out the 1st ballad of the night "记得"[Remember], the crowd was even madder and sang along to the subsequent big-hit slow numbers like "真实"[True] and "我要快乐"[I Want To Be Happy].

The concert was basically made up of 3 high and 3 slow interchanging sessions, which A*Mei had no problems switching modes. There was also 2 numbers she sang for her deceased mentor 张雨生[Zhang Yu-sheng] -- "天天想你"[Thinking of You Every Day] (after which she sobbed on stage) and "后知后觉"[Last To Know, Last To Realise].

To hear A*Mei sing live is like bringing life to her every song, be it her hits or near-misses, sweaty dance tracks or weepy sentimental ballads, originals or covers. When she swayed and dirty danced with her hot dancers [both the girls and the guys] to the "high" numbers like "站在高岗上"[On The Hilltop], "薇多莉亚的秘密"[Victoria's Secret], "爱什么稀罕"[What's So Great About Love]. She even created her own rap (which lyrics poked fun at herself for her rumoured love affair with 王力宏) on "了不起"[Excellent].

When she heart-feltedly performed her power ballads, the crowd was even more ready to sing along and (which I belived) relive the scenarios depicted by the lyrics. The likes of "人质"[Hostage],"蓝天"[Blue Sky], "剪爱"[Cutting Love],"听海"[Listen To The Sea],"我无所谓"[I Don't Mind] and "原来你什么都不要"[Actually You Don't Want Anything] worked the crowd like magic.

Too bad the majority of the crowd did not stand up for most of the concert, until the midst of the encore when she sang "一想到你呀"[When I Think of You Ah]. But when we finally did, we were crazzzy. Non-stop clapping, whistling and swaying for close to half an hour to the rhythms of "给我感觉"[Makes Me Feel], "姐妹"[Sisters] and "三天三夜"[3 Days 3 Nights]. A*Mei also said she couldn't believe there was still energy within us after already 3 hours into the show!
